Excessive Bleeding

Excessive Bleeding 2016-11-24T16:14:06+00:00

Excessive bleeding occurs when the blood fails to clot properly, but clotting is necessary when someone experiences trauma that damages the blood vessels. In a body that is functioning normally, the platelets rush to the injured area to prevent blood from escaping through the wound. They do this with the help of clotting factors that can be found within the blood. These clotting factors are like glue because they help the platelets to stick together where they are needed.

The damaged tissues can begin to heal themselves when the system operates in the manner described above. If the procedure is inhibited for some reason, clotting does not occur, and the blood is allowed to continue to escape in what is called “excessive bleeding.

Why Does Excessive Bleeding Occur?

Excessive bleeding can occur for the following reasons:

  • The patient experienced an injury
  • The patient had surgery
  • The patient gave birth to a baby
  • The patient experienced an aneurysm
  • A major blood vessel ruptured

What Happens if Excessive Bleeding Is not Treated?

Excessive bleeding can be extremely dangerous because it can cause people to go into shock or have a heart attack or a stroke. People have died from these conditions, so it is imperative for medical professionals to stop the bleeding as soon as they can. If not, this matter can become extremely complicated if the excessive bleeding is misdiagnosed.

The Causes of Excessive Bleeding

Some of the causes of long-term bleeding are the following:

  • Sepsis
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Bone marrow failure
  • Liver disease
  • HIV infection
  • Aspirin
  • The NSAIDS
  • The anticoagulants warfarin and heparin

Symptoms of Excessive Bleeding

Patients suffering from chronic excessive bleeding may begin to feel weak. They might notice that their urine has turned brown. Their skin may begin to bruise more easily. They may appear to be pale. When the excessive bleeding occurs at a faster rate, patients tend to develop the symptoms of anemia.

The Treatment for Excessive Bleeding

Once medical professionals determine that a patient is suffering from excessive bleeding, the first thing they must do is find the source of the bleeding so that they can stop it. One way to do this is to give the patient a plasma transfusion to encourage the blood to clot. An alternative is a red blood cell transfusion that will replace red blood cells that the patient has already lost.

What Is Medical Malpractice?

Medical malpractice occurs when medical professionals cause harm to come to a patient because of an action that they performed. It also happens when
healthcare professionals neglect to offer their patients treatment that would have helped their situations. In the case of excessive bleeding, your physician may have made an error when diagnosing your malady or failed to adequately treat the underlying illness. As a result, you or a loved one may have experienced a heart attack or stroke that caused permanent injury.

If medical malpractice played a role in your case, you will need to seek the advice of a knowledgeable and skilled personal injury attorney. It can be very difficult to demonstrate that medical malpractice has occurred, so you need someone working on your side who has extensive experience with these types of cases. "Reading this firm's lengthly list of verdicts and settlements in medical malpractice and birth injury is what convinced us. We took a lot of time to select the right law firm for our disabled child with serious life time disability and we are glad we did. Our son will have millions in life time needs because of the hospital care and they did not want to listen to us. They can hear us loud and clear now."

"There are no words to begin to explain how grateful we are for what your team has done for our family. I cannot begin to imagine how we would have survived following the negligent care.
